Mezzanine - (/ˌmɛzəˈniːn/; or in Italian, a mezzanino) an intermediate floor in a building which is partly open to the double-height ceilinged floor below, or which does not extend over the whole floorspace of the building, a loft with non-sloped walls. However, the term is often used loosely for the floor above the ground floor, especially where a very high-ceilinged original ground floor has been split horizontally into two floors.
Geofeed - is list of IP address ranges associated with geolocation information. The principle was authored by Google in July 2013. Starting August 2020, it was officially published as a standard under RFC 8805 with the name A Format for Self-Published IP Geolocation Feeds. This is now the gold standard for sharing geolocation information. Geofeeds are used to correct data errors that result from altered prefixes or other variables that affect geolocation. Network operators can publish a mapping of IP address ranges to simplified geolocation information, informally termed a geolocation feed or geofeed. Interested parties (e.g. geolocation providers but not only) can regularly poll and parse these feeds to update or merge data with other geolocation data sources and then apply procedures with very little hassle. Rice (cars) - Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements. (R.I.C.E.) Parts put on cars to make them look fast, when they have no internal tuning, and are actually slow as hell. Parts usually consist of excessivley angular bodykits, large rear spoilers, neon, sponsor stickers, chrome rims, fake "coffee can" exhaust tips, and loud, annoying paint jobs and/or vynils. Sometimes parts are do-it-yourself installed and are basically duct taped to the car. Most commonly known for being done to Honda Civics, but can also be done to slow domestic vehicles, such as a Chevy Cavalier, etc.
Rice burner - a pejorative term originally applied to Japanese motorcycles and which later expanded to include Japanese cars or any East Asian-made vehicles. Variations include rice rocket, referring most often to Japanese superbikes, rice machine, rice grinder or simply ricer. Riced out is an adjective denigrating a badly customized sports car, "usually with oversized or ill-matched exterior appointmentsRicing comes from the car terminology "ricing" or "RICEing". In the car world, RICE stands for Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancement. When you put a scoop on your car (that doesn't lead to a cold air intake) or a big spoiler (which won't make a difference), you're ricing. The idea is to increase its perceived performance through cosmetics.

Carpetbagger — a largely historical pejorative used by Southerners to describe allegedly opportunistic or disruptive Northerners who came to the Southern states after the American Civil War and were perceived to be exploiting the local populace for their own financial, political, or social gain. The term broadly included both individuals who sought to promote Republican politics (including the right of black people to vote and hold office) and individuals who saw business and political opportunities because of the chaotic state of the local economies following the war. 手書きポップ (Tegaki POP) -- They are catchy, kitsch handrawn signage, custome-made by shop assistants in retail stores in Japan to promote certain products. Please image search, their craft is quite impressive. They are seen everywhere, from supermarkets, drugstores to bookshops. There is even a Japanese typeface classification, like blackletter or serifs, that is derived from these signages. This design style is reflected in things like film posters and youtube thumbnails too. While they aren't elegant but effective, legible, fast at catching attention and does the job. Tokyo itself is busy as is, but these design choices make it very draining to live.

外国語が堪能でない一般的な読者にとって、外国の文学に親しむ方法は、翻訳文を読むことです。三島由紀夫氏が「文章読本」第６章で書いているように、「翻訳者の恣意のおかげで如何に外国文学が歪められて伝えられてきたか、その害悪は測り知れないほどであります。｣その一例に、「ローズマリーの赤ちゃん」を挙げざるを得ません。着想やプロットは素晴らしい故に、原文を読み味わうことができれば良いのに、と思います。一組の夫婦とその周囲の人々の出産前後の物語の中に、人間の欲、偽善、欺瞞そして、社会の価値観の逆転を描いています。１９６６年当時の世相を反映していると同時に、２００７年現在にも当てはまることが、改めて意識させられます。訳者を代えての再出版を強く願います。
悪魔崇拝者たちがなかなかその本性をハッキリとあらわにしないところに この小説の面白さがあるような気がします（途中でもろに思わせぶりな箇所は ありますが夢か現実か判らない）。 ローズマリーが徐々に四面楚歌となってゆく筆運びもうまいと思います。 彼女の孤立と悪魔の発露の直線的経緯、という構成としては単純なのですが、 そのぶん平易に読み進め、ローズマリーにどっぷりと感情移入することができます。 それに、直線的ストーリーとはいえ、さまざまな装飾音符や副次物を身にまとい、 全体を一くせも二くせもあるいでたちにみせています。 ロマン・ポランスキー監督の同名映画は細部が簡略化されたり異なってはいる ものの、心理的に追いつめられてゆく主人公をミア・ファローが好演し、 おおむね原作の文脈に忠実といっていいでしょう。 なお、この監督、解釈は「二通りある」とも語っています。
法律用語がけっこう出てくるのですが、基本的に読みやすい本なので、気になりませんでした。 彼に「結婚相手にはもっとSERIOUSな子でないと」と振られた主人公エルが、彼を取り戻そうと、彼を追って法律学校に入学してしまいます。周りはお堅い学生ばかりで、案の定落ちこぼれになってしまいますが、授業のノートのコピーをポストに入れてくれる謎の"angel"や、数少ない友達に助けられながら成長していく話です。 読み終わった後、元気になる本です。 映画もその後見ましたが、こちらもお勧めです。
